On Ep 83 we sat down with comedian Alex Hooper to talk about the Academy award-winning documentary Man On Wire. Alex has a strong connection to this doc because he recently started slacklining and as we discover there is more than a casual connection between walking on a wire without a net and performing comedy!

We sat down with comedian Krista Fatka to discuss Vikram Gandhi’s 2012 documentary KUMARE. Gandhi, a lapsed Hindu, conducts an experiment posing as a guru named Kumare. Kumare/Gandhi attracts a number of followers in Arizona and the question is when and how he’ll reveal the truth behind Kumare.

On Ep 77 host Paco Romane sits down with comedian/writer Molly Sanchez to talk, dissect and deconstruct the doc Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond. Due to technical difficulties host George Chen couldn’t attend so Paco and Molly talk hella smack about George but also get into comedy, movies, writing and much more!

On today’s episode hosts Paco Romane and George Chen sat down with comedian/writer Solomon Georgio. Solomon has written for Adam Ruins Everything & Spongebob SquarePants. His TV credits include CONAN, The Meltdown, This Is Not Happening, Viceland’s Flophouse, and Last Call with Carson Daly. He’s also got a new Comedy Central special called Homonégro Superior. 

To know Nick Stargu (or DJ Real) is to love him! Nick is a friend of the show (he appeared on our LIVE Sketchfest episode 2 years ago) and is a very talented comedian and musician. Nick brought to us We Jam Econo the revealing doc that looks back at the history of the influential 1980s punk band the Minutemen.

On Ep 73 rounding out our Rocktober music doc series, Paco and George sat down with the brilliant writer and comedian Dana Gould. They talked about the 2004 Metallica doc Some Kind of Monster which Dana rightfully described as “the best documentary ever made about marriage”. They also get into a discussion about therapy, his favorite jokes from The Simpsons, JFK, divorce, stage worthy jokes, father figures, Brian Wilson, John Lennon, and so much more! 

Our guest is comedian David Huntsberger and our doc is Man vs Snake: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler the inspirational and outrageous true story of one man’s quest for the highest video game score ever. The film follows players as they try to accumulate a billion points on the 1982 arcade game, Nibbler, a feat first achieved by Tim McVey in 1984.

On Ep 66 Paco and George met up with the talented and hilarious  Baron Vaughn to discuss the documentary Baron made called Fatherless. In America, one in four children grow-up in homes led by single mothers. This was the case for actor/comedian/writer Baron Vaughn (‘Grace and Frankie’) who, with the support of his mother, chose not to let a statistic define him and set out on a quest to search for the father he never knew. Baron’s journey and the revelations about his upbringing are chronicled with a flair for both the comedic and heartfelt in the new doc.

On episode 65 we sat down with comedian Allen Strickland Williams to discuss and dissect BEST OF ENEMIES and the relationship between two colossal minds and ideological opposites William F. Buckley Jr. and Gore Vida. Their series of riveting, nationally televised debates ushered in a new era of public discourse and pundit TV.

On episode 64 of Sup Doc hosts Paco Romane and George Chen sit down with the very talented comedian/musician Howard Kremer. They talk about the 2013 documentary Muscle Shoals celebrating Rick Hall, the founder of FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The signature “Muscle Shoals sound” developed in songs such as “I’ll Take You There”, “Brown Sugar”, and “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Howard and the boys also discuss Public Enemy, Hip Hop Evolution, docs vs biopics, high school band names, and Jello Biafra.

Paco and George sit down with comedian/artist Kristina Wong to discuss LO AND BEHOLD, REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD (2016). Along the way we learn about Kristina’s practice, rapping in Uganda, trolling Trump on twitter, and our relationship to technology.

On Ep 61 Paco Romane and George Chen sat down with comedian and actor Ahmed Bharoocha to talk about the documentary Detropia.

It’s MAYHEM MONTH! Episode 56 comedian Allison Mick talks about the 2009 documentary Interview with a Serial Killer. Allison lived in the city where serial killer Arthur Shawcross was murdering people and she even grew up near the house he lived in! Creepy!

Paco and George were thrilled to have the comedy legend Wayne Federman over to talk about his favorite documentary CRUMB. Crumb is Terry Zwigoff’s (Ghost World) first film about his longtime friend and bandmate, godfather of underground comics Robert Crumb. This doc soon expands its scope to the Crumb Brothers (Maxon and Charles) and ends up going many unexpected directions.

The very funny and informative Ryan Singer joined us to talk about Sirius, one of the most successful crowdfunded documentaries in history. The film explores an ongoing grassroots movement to get the U.S. government to reveal what it reportedly knows about UFOs, extraterrestrials and the availability of advanced alternative energy technologies that could greatly benefit everyone on Earth.

On Episode 51 Sup Doc hosts George Chen and Paco Romane talk with comedian and musician Henry Phillips about his favorite doc THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE! Released in 2002, The Kid Stays in the Picture uses Evans’ narration interspersed mostly with photographs from Evans’ life as well as brief film footage from films such as Love Story, The Sun Also Rises, Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown, and The Godfather just to name a few…what makes this doc so great is Evans himself and how he changed Hollywood. Henry Phillips has been seen and heard performing his twisted songs and stories on ‘Comedy Central Presents’, ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, as well as satellite and terrestrial radio nationwide.

Paco and George sit down with comedian Bert DiVietri to talk about his favorite documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened? Director Jon Schnepp’s 2015 film looks at the infamous Tim Burton reboot of Superman starring Nicholas Cage, which never got made.
