The very funny and informative Ryan Singer joined us to talk about Sirius, one of the most successful crowdfunded documentaries in history. The film explores an ongoing grassroots movement to get the U.S. government to reveal what it reportedly knows about UFOs, extraterrestrials and the availability of advanced alternative energy technologies that could greatly benefit everyone on Earth.

What’s Sup March 13, 2017

What’s Sup are quick episodes where hosts Paco Romane and George Chen sit down with their producer Will Scovill to talk about what’s happening in the world on documentaries, follow up’s, what’s going on in their lives and what’s coming up next on Sup Doc!

Sup Doc is trying out a new format in addition to letting you know about next week’s episode (Episode 53 SIRIUS with Ryan Singer – coming out March 20th).

Will Scovill (Producer for Sup Doc) joins Paco and George as we discuss Adam Curtis, The Tickle King, Serena Williams, Gimme Danger, Bright Lights, Netflix, and our new sponsor GuideDoc  (GuideDoc has an app for your phone to watch docs! Go to this link and enter your email for a chance to WIN a free month of docs)

Plus:

This Week on Sup Doc, Paco and George talk with Claire Evans and Jona Bechtolt from the band YACHT about one of 2016’s craziest documentaries, TICKLED! We also talk about feminist histories of the Internet, Halt and Catch Fire, cats, hidden Netflix test videos, sibling vs uncle torture.
New Zealand journalists David Farrier and Dylan Reeve descend down a rabbit hole of an internet mystery that keeps adding stranger and stranger twists, and the drama has only heightened since the film’s release.
Jona and Claire were excited to talk about Tickling, internet subculture and their many, many other projects (like their live score for ALIEN on March 9th at LACMA https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bring-the-noise-alien-with-new-live-music-by-yacht-tickets-32000728039).
TICKLED can now be viewed on HBO and on HBOGO. http://www.hbo.com/documentaries/tickled

Thanks!

On Episode 51 Sup Doc hosts George Chen and Paco Romane talk with comedian and musician Henry Phillips about his favorite doc THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE! Released in 2002, The Kid Stays in the Picture uses Evans’ narration interspersed mostly with photographs from Evans’ life as well as brief film footage from films such as Love Story, The Sun Also Rises, Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown, and The Godfather just to name a few…what makes this doc so great is Evans himself and how he changed Hollywood. Henry Phillips has been seen and heard performing his twisted songs and stories on ‘Comedy Central Presents’, ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, as well as satellite and terrestrial radio nationwide.

Sup Doc RETURNS to SF Sketchfest! With hosts Paco Romane and George Chen for a special FREE event with panelist Cory Sklar (Illogical Contraption), Emily Van Dyke, and Frankie G (Killing My Lobster, Narcissists Anonymous) and Melissa McQueen (The World Famous Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv Comedy Club)

Last year’s Sketchfest show was awesome and we’re back for more! We screened the cult “found footage” short Memorial Day 2000 and then turned the mics on our panel to dissect, debate and discuss with hilarious results. Topics include our own youthful indiscretions, Juggalos, Springer, Faygo, Warped Tour, Northern Cities Vowel Shift, what constitutes a documentary, camping fails, and much more. We even get to hear Paco play piano.

Paco and George sit down with comedian Bert DiVietri to talk about his favorite documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened? Director Jon Schnepp’s 2015 film looks at the infamous Tim Burton reboot of Superman starring Nicholas Cage, which never got made. We talk to Bert about DC vs. Marvel, fantasy casting, Kevin Smith, Jon Peters’s headlocks, fandom, and more. You can find the film at http://www.tdoslwh.com and it’s also available on Showtime.

On EP 47 host Paco Romane talks about his favorite docs he watched in 2016, goes thru listener mail and provides some important details about our LIVE SF Sketchfest, the San Francisco Comedy Festival show on January 29th! And as always Paco, George Chen and Will Scovill would like to say THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!! You’ve made 2016 our best year yet! And as always Sup Doc is a 100% self-funded, volunteer labor of love. We want nothing more than to have ad free shows! To make that happen we created a Patreon page for those that can help out. We will also be providing unique Sup Doc content for our contributors. You can contribute as little as $1 a month! If now is not good for you we always appreciate you listening and spreading the word about Sup Doc! https://www.patreon.com/supdocpodcast
